It is NOT okay to be obese.
Before anyone rages at me, let me explain.
I understand that not everyone is going to be ideally thin, it is okay to be a bit above weight, there is nothing wrong with that. But when it comes to the point where it is legitimately obesity, it is not okay. The idea here on tumblr is that all shapes and sizes are beautiful and you’re all perfect. I get why this is said, and I understand and love that a majority of tumblr is supporting strangers around the world and helping them love themselves. That is okay and I agree with that, but what I don’t agree with is telling OBESE people that they are perfect just the way they are. Obesity is a serious problem and it is not okay to sit back and act like everything is okay with being obese because it’s not. I’m not coming from an aesthetic viewpoint on this either, I’m coming from a medical viewpoint. It is not healthy to be obese and it’s not okay to act like everything is fine, because it’s not.

How does one define “legitimate obesity”? Are we using the BMI scale which, according to its creator, was never intended to assess a person’s health? Are we going by appearance, in which case this actually is coming from an aesthetic viewpoint? Are we going by the presence of health problems, which are none of our fucking business to begin with and may or may not even be related to a person’s weight?
Here’s a little secret: fat people know that they’re fat. You think they don’t get people telling them that every single day, making comments about their bodies and then hiding behind a shield of “I just care about your health”? If you care about people’s health, why aren’t you going up to every single person who’s doing something unhealthy and commenting on it? Because you can’t physically see anything wrong? We’re assuming that the mere state of being fat is indicative of a person’s health and it’s not.
Newsflash: the idea that fatness is unhealthy and needs to be changed is not an unpopular opinion. It’s the most popular fucking opinion there is. Other people’s health is none of our damn business and there’s nothing to be gained from shaming fat people.

Can we kill the idea that fatness = ‘eating too much!’ 100% of the time?God forbid you’re disabled and as a result, you cannot exercise.God forbid you’re poor as sin and can’t afford a gym membership, and your family gets by on cheap pre-cooked meals you can prepare quickly instead of organic local produce.God forbid you take medication that has a side effect of putting on weight, or a chronic health condition that literally makes you fat. Fight for better access to health care, fight for better nutrition to be made available for others, and lend support and UNDERSTANDING to disabled folk, sick folk, poor folk. Help make positive change to promote helping our communities manage their lifestyles IF THEY CHOOSE and by encouraging the government to start giving a damn about its people and offering more accessible, free services regarding nutrition and fitness. but for goodness sake do not attack people for being unfortunate enough to not fit within your ‘perfect standards’.

Happy to see fat friendly vegans

Let’s not forget the fact that the quote unquote (yes, I’m typing out quotes for emphasis) “obesity epidemic” is yet another social construction that we somehow overlook. It’s one more way to exert control over our lifestyles, body images, and wallets. Fat people are not inherently unhealthy. No one’s health but your own is your problem.Period.
Shit guys, good hair and makeup days make me feel really cocky.
